Get Outside!

Put down the mouse, get off the couch and get outside, at least, some of the time and a little each day.

Along with eating right, staying fit with regular exercise is the other half of the game plan for a healthy you.

You don't have to be into sports or take dance classes to be active and get exercise. Everybody enjoys different kinds of exercise, find the ones that you like and do them…regularly…

Regular exercise is the key. It helps to build your bones and muscles. It also helps you sleep well at night and stay alert during the day.

Some ideas on how to increase your daily exercise and have fun at the same time.
You are looking for
an hour of exercise a day, break it up any way you want to:

Jump rope - a total body exercise that uses all the muscles and builds up your speed, quickness, balance, coordination, explosiveness. It also builds leg, knee, ankle and foot strength.

Get a hula hoop - once you get the hang of it hula hoops are great exercise and you won’t want to stop. It's all in the hips, don't swing your hips, just relax and move your hips enough to keep it going.

Ride a bike - not only is riding a bike good exercise, it can take you places. Don't forget the helmet and know the rules of the road.

Take a walk - Walking to school does count! But add a little power walking and you have some great aerobic exercise.

Play tennis - if you are lucky enough to have courts or a backboard near your home or at your school, tennis is a great way to get exercise and bang out any frustrations on the ball!

Play handball - Call a friend and grab a ball, handball is a fun game to get that body moving.

Shoot baskets - You don't need to use the full court to get the exercise benefits of shooting hoops. Just go in for the basket and make your best shot!

Dance to your favorite tunes - you don't even have to go outside for this one. Just put on your favorite tunes and dance to the music. Dancing can be a great athletic and acrobatic style of exercise.

Go bowling with friends - Make a group, make a date and head for the nearest bowling alley. Bowling is fun!
