Q: I play soccer all the time and that is all that I do. Do I need to do anything else?

A: First I want to congratulate you on finding a sport that you love. It is great for your cardio vascular system which makes your heart healthy. It might be fun for you to try other ways to move because after a certain period of time your body adapts and variety can add a whole new dimension to your already awesome workouts. If your school has a place to strength train try adding that to what you’re doing now and it will make you a stronger, better soccer player. Even doing push-ups is a way to strength train and they can be done anywhere. Try this: Start with one push-up and rest. Then do two push-ups and rest. Then do three push-ups and rest, working your way up to a total of ten. You will have just done 55 push-ups!! Begin this on your knees, if you’re not ready for full military push-ups. Good luck!!!

Q: I have heard that weight training will make me big and bulky. Is that true?

A: Great question! You don’t know how times I have heard this from my female clients. The answer is NO! I cannot stress enough how beneficial strength training is for people especially for women. Now is the time to start a good habit. The more lean muscle you have, the lower your body fat will be. So what this means is that your body becomes a better calorie burning machine and you can even lose inches in the process of developing beautiful lean muscles. Plus all the other benefits such as the regulation of your blood sugar (so you won’t crave sugar), strengthening of your bones and joints, development of muscle tone, improvement of  circulation and many other wonderful benefits. Just think how confident you’ll feel when you’re walking tall and feeling good!
